All anxiety disorders are not equal, different people find different things cause them to have anxiety attacks. Men will find different situations cause their anxiety disorder to come to the fore than women do.
Social anxiety attacks make people doubt themselves, someone who suffers with anxiety attacks will convince themselves that everyone’s eyes are on them. The fear of being noticed and even more importantly that someone will see them make a mistake often becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.
If you are in a situation that could possibly cause minor worry in most of us, such as a crowd of people suddenly appearing and people coming in a bit close. Someone with social anxiety could well go into a full on anxiety attack, couple that with the fear that someone will notice their anxiety and it all compounds into a very frightening anxiety attack.
Social anxiety disorders can affect your career as well as your social life, if you get nervous and anxious every time you are talking to your boss it will affect your career prospects. Some people will find that their anxiety disorder doesn’t bother them at work but only when they are out in a social situation.
The anticipation of an event can be almost as bad as the actual event for people who have social anxiety disorders. Public speaking is one of the best known fears that people have, imagine having that level of fear every time you want to use a public toilet?
If social anxiety is not recognized and treated then it takes over peoples lives, it normally starts affecting their social life first. Social anxiety keeps millions of people locked up in their own homes and the fear gets worse and worse the longer it goes on.
Social anxiety disorder usually will start at a early age. You can be shy and still not experience the same intense anxiety that people do with social anxiety disorder. Shy people usually do not avoid certain social situations like people that have social anxiety disorders. Social anxiety disorder can overtake someone’s life if they allow it to.
