Why Do I Sweat So Much?

January 2, 2010 Filed Under: Sweating

INTRODUCTION: An excessive sweating condition is often caused by a disorder of over-active sweat glands like the thoracic gland and creates a lot of inferiority complexes, thus leading people to avoid facing the public and in turn lowering their morale and spirits. It could also be a sign of menopause.

Perspiring At Night is a very common problem for many people. It happens at night because we reach a point where the bed is no longer able to absorb more heat. It is the very last action that the body takes in its effort to cool down. Excessive perspiration can be very embarrassing and may sometimes signal a more serious health problem.

HYPERHIDROSIS: A genetic condition that causes unusual sweating of the hands, underarms, feet, scalp, face, or blushing that is beyond the normal emotional and physiological need. It also is known to promote the development of skin infections and also increase your body odour. It affects more than four million Americans and can negatively affect people both socially and functionally in their daily lives. This problems presents many choices and important decisions so please consult your physician.

TREATMENT: Excess perspiring created either by disorders of sweat glands or over active glands can be cured quite easily either by thoracic surgery procedure or an excessive perspiration treatment. Treatments to cure overactive sweat glands and excessive sweating problems is easily gotten but your doctor should take into account your health, age, severity of the condition, allergies to specific drugs, procedures and therapies.

Some of the other ways to treat hyperhidrosis or unusual sweating problems include surgical removal of the overactive glands, iontophoresis (The use of an electric current to introduce the ions of a medicament into bodily tissues.), applying of aluminum chloride solution and psychological counseling.

You must remember that the problem cannot be stopped unless some type of treatment or cure is used. In fact the medicines that claim to treat the problem do not label themselves as treatment for hyperhidrosis; they only claim that controlling it is an added feature of the drugs. You should also remember that such over-the-counter medicines are only temporary solutions and not a permanent one.

Botulinum toxin or Botox is another treatment that is used to treat over active sweat glands. It was first used to treat eye muscle spasms and wrinkles. But many patients observed that botox also reduced perspiration in those regions where it was injected and thus many physicians began using botox injections to cure excessive sweating. Botox is very costly and has a success rate of 90%, but the effect will last only for 6 to 8 months.

There are a lot of people who have received some relief using one of the methods mentioned above, but if you have used some of the above said solutions and have found no relief from excessive perspiring, then surgery would be your best option. Consult your MD.

CONCLUSION: Excessive sweating includes sweaty palms and feet along with body odor. It is also known as hyperhidrosis or hyperhydrosis, and is a result of overactive glands and may be controlled with strong antiperspirants, which plug the sweat ducts. This excessive perspiring problem can only be cured by thoracic surgery procedure. Look out for different safe methods and if all goes well you might end up finding a cure for your problem yourself.

  1. what about overactive sweat glands? on December 10th, 2008 12:09 am

I would not go ahead and recommend surgery for excessive sweaters. It’s only going to make things worse. A lot of people who go through with these type of surgeries, develop what is called “compensatory sweating”. This means that they begin to sweat more on other places of their body, just to compensate for the sweat glands that were lost.

The bad guy is the system that controls the sweat glands, which is called the “sympathetic nerve system”. This system is overactive and an effect of an overactive sympathetic nerve system, is uncontrolled sweating.

You can cure this condition with diet, But I would recommend yoga. It helped me a lot. Simple breating exercises can help you to balance your nerve system and get your body to stop sweating.

Just google “yoga nerve system” and read around a little..

    Cheers!
