Why Large Muscles Are Out Of Style In Hollywood
January 12, 2008 by Rusty Moore
Do you remember back in the mid-80’s when Terminator, Predator, and Conan came out? Well, Arnold redefined what Hollywood’s action star looked like. He was massively muscular and impressive looking. So impressive in fact, he spurred on an entire generation of guys who wanted to gain as much muscle as possible. He actually helped bodybuilding become mainstream for a short period of time. That was a short period of time as far as the general population is concerned, so why is the fitness industry focusing on the 80’s look?
The Big Muscle Look Began to Die in the Late 90’s
You see, although many guys wanted to get as big as possible, women had a different idea of what looked great. They wanted their men to look good in dress clothes as well as with their shirts off. Women are physically attracted to the GQ look or lean and slim toned guys, not massive freaky muscular guys. If you ever have seen a soap opera, you will notice that all of the men have average amounts of muscle but with exceptional muscle tone.
1999, the Year Fight Club Came Out, Was The Official Death of the Massive Look
Although women have been telling men for years that they don’t like the massive look, most of the male population didn’t buy it for some reason. Brad Pitt’s character, Tyler Durden, finally opened many guys eyes to what women have been telling us for years. Tyler Durden was a guy’s guy, but women found him sexy as well. Brad Pitt showed us that ripped men who could wear funky clothes were more impressive than awkward looking massive actors. Women love this combination, but Fight Club was a movie that really drilled this message home to men as well.
Actors Have Slimmed Down in Record Numbers Since 1999
How many women do you know who find Matt Damon attractive? About every single woman you know! He is the new action star and has a regular size build with great muscle definition. He has the build of a slim Navy Seal or Special Ops guy. These men are slim with functional strength. Someone like Arnold looks cool in the movie Predator, but in reality he would move slower and get shot due to his excess size. Mark Wahlberg is another example of a guy who used to be big, but created a sleek look. What about Johnny Depp? People forget he used to be bulky earlier in his career. Now that he has slimmed down, women can’t get enough of this guy. He would look stupid if he added 30 pounds of muscle!
Are You Stuck In The Late 80’s and Trying To Get Massive?
What impresses guys in the gym is a turn-off for women in the outside world. Sure there are some women who like the massive look. Heck, there are men who like women with excessive body hair. I am not trying to impress the 4 gym bunnies, I want to attract a beautiful woman out in the outside world. If you want to have a cheesiness factor when you wear a suit or jeans, then get as big as possible. Sure most people will think you are corny, but your buddies in your gym will think you are a god. If your goal is to attract women, you may want to reconsider gaining excessive muscle.

Thanks for the article.
There was also a time not long ago when female celebrities like Madonna and others where getting quite “bulky”. That fad has certainly vanished also, and it seems as if thin is in again. Yuck!
Hi and thanks for stopping by. At least they’re not as skinny as Twiggy was back in the day.
