Running to Keep Fit

November 23, 2007 by Lucy

Everyone knows that running is one of the most beneficial exercises out there. It is one of the most highly used exercises for weight loss, can work wonders for your cardiovascular system, and can help to strengthen our bones.

Many of us don’t get the exercise we need, and running is a great choice because it can provide for our bodies so many things that we may be lacking due to a lack of regular exercise. On top of the benefits for your health, running can actually do a lot for your appearance. It naturally causes the body to produce the human growth hormone, which is something that celebrities take to help keep them from ageing.

So how can you get started running? As much as running is known for its health benefits and ability to increase stamina and athletic performance, it’s also renowned for having a very high “drop-out rate.” Many people want to start running to help their health, but they soon find that it takes an extraordinary amount of effort, and often wind up quitting. They see it as too difficult, too demanding, and feeling so exhausted after an exercise just isn’t worth it. The problem is that they are starting out the wrong way - simply jumping up and going running isn’t the proper way to start.

Few people can suddenly take up running on a regular basis, and virtually no one who is out of shape could ever hope to do it. If you immediately head outside and begin a jogging routine, not only are you going about things incorrectly, but you also aren’t accomplishing much - your body, unprepared for such a sudden burst of activity, immediately turns to high-output, fast-access energy sources such as sugars, and doesn’t burn fat.

These energy sources are quickly accessed but don’t last for very long, causing you to give out in a very short period of time. The result is that you’ve over-exerted yourself, become extremely tired, and don’t actually improve your health very much. You’re not very likely to stay with it going about it this way.

It would be great if you could participate in my survey. It wont take more than two minutes of your time.

I assure you that this survey is only for educational purpose and to be shared with a class of 23 students.
