Three Healthy Foods to Eat That Can Improve Your Health!
February 14, 2009 Filed Under: Food News
Beginning when I was pregnant with my first child, I became more and more interested in nutrition. I realized that before all the man-made drugs that we currently have on the market to fight illnesses, people turned toward nature to cure their ailments. And, newly pregnant, I wanted to provide the best nutrition for me and my child and receive all the benefits I could from eating healthy foods. After pregnancy, I continued to research the best foods that would increase my energy while breastfeeding and aid in losing the baby weight, and also help my child grow healthy and strong.
Specific healthy foods to eat can make an amazing difference in your life. Certain foods may help eliminate illness, reduce annoying symptoms, and lower your risk for certain diseases. For instance, the symptoms of depression can be reduced by eating sardines and salmon, while ADHD symptoms can decrease by eating flax oil. Furthermore, women who are trying to lose weight can eat certain types of nuts that have been shown to improve weight loss capabilities.
It’s true, certain foods do have medicinal properties that can improve your life. Three, among a few others, are acai, hazelnuts, and barley. These foods are beyond just adding variety to your diet. They are actual “power house” foods that can improve the way you feel and help fight off illness.
Acai contains many antioxidants and has been shown to help protect the immune system from physical stress. It comes in juice or frozen pulp form, as it cannot be imported in actual berry form. Grown mainly in Brazil, it is a food staple in Amazon communities.
Hazelnuts also contain an array of beneficial antioxidants including Vitamin E and other phytonutrients that help the immune system remain strong. There are actually many ways you can add hazelnuts to your diet. You can sprinkle diced hazelnuts on salads or in yogurt, add into baking or stir-fry, or roast in your own conventional oven and add to a trail mix.
Another healthy food to eat is Barley. Its main use for human consumption is in beer making, but it has been around for at least 10,000 years. Barley contains beta-glucans, which not only aid in immune function, but also with lowering cholesterol. While it should be noted that barley is not gluten-free, it can be used in many ways: grind into flour and use in baking, make into a hot cereal, or add to soups, stews, and salads.
Acai, hazelnuts, and barley are three foods you can add to your diet. They may make you feel better, help fight off common ailments, and benefit you nutritionally as well.
