The Lemonade Diet – To Do Or Not To Do?

October 10, 2009 Filed Under: Dieting

The Lemonade Diet was devised in the 1940s. There is still a great deal of controversy about whether it is a good, healthy diet. For some people, it is something they do twice a year for their health and vitality. For other people, the Lemonade Diet is dangerous to your health and nothing would make them do it.

Let’s look at the Lemonade Diet. What, actually, is it? Originally named the Master Cleanse, it became the lemonade diet through popular usage. It was first planned as a de-toxifier for the bowel and body rather than as a reducing diet. Stanley Burroughs, the originator of the Lemonade Diet said it is ”a reducing diet which is far superior in every way, to any other system because it dissolves and eliminates all types of fatty tissue.”

It is easy to see why people lose weight, when they eat no solids at all for 10 days. Doctors don’t even agree about this diet, some feel it is dangerous, others feel it is a healthy thing to fast. Are you confused yet?

Nutritionally, this is what the diet offers;

* One of the best sources of vitamins and minerals readily available, is lemons. Lemon juice “cuts” through fat and mucus, cleaning as it goes.

* Grade B maple syrup is highly recommended for its taste and mineral content. It must not be substituted. The variety of vitamins and minerals in maple syrup include: potassium, calcium, magnesium, manganese, iron, copper, phosphorus, sulfur, chlorine and silicon. Vitamin A, B1, B2, B6, C, nicotinic acid and pantothenic acid.

* Cayenne Pepper breaks down mucus and increases body temperature, helping to “melt” fat. It cleanses the digestive and respiratory tracts and boosts the circulatory system. Herbalists have used cayenne for centuries, to treat a variety of problems and increase the effect of other herbs.

It is unlikely that any great harm will come to anyone in 10 days of fasting with this balance of nutrition, but many people find it too harsh a regime for the benefits. For those who don’t know the recipe, this is it;

* 2 tbsp lemon juice (1/2 lemon)

* 2 tbsp of pure Grade B maple syrup

* 1/10 tsp cayenne pepper (red) or to taste

* 12 oz of hot, filtered water

You will drink between 6 and 12 glasses of lemonade in a day. It is a good idea to prepare for the whole day in one go. You must drink at least 6 glasses per day.

The Lemonade Diet says each morning, you should take the salt rinse. This is a quart of water with 2 teaspoons of sea salt in it, drink it quickly, followed by lemonade. This will start the cleanse and keep your bowels moving. At night, you should drink a cup of laxative tea.

There are different ways to try the Lemonade Diet. There are some basic foods you can eat without detracting from the cleanse. The side effects can be managed and it’s a good idea ensure you have some social support, to help you stay on track. This helps you to stay on the Lemonade Diet long enough to decide for yourself if it is right for you. If you are planning to detox, there are other, less extreme methods available, as supplements and products, though obviously, there is a cost involved.

It really is up to you. I recommend educating yourself as much as possible before embarking on the Lemonade Diet. Whatever you decide, the best of success to you!

    It’s very true that this lemon diet necessitates you to drink only fluids during the period of the diet. As such, the calorie intake is reduced unimaginably. You would be burning more calories that what you take. so there is every chance for you to slim down.

    However, the nutritional intake is reduced and your stamina may confront a big decline. So if you are a novice, just do not proceed with this for more than a day or two!

    I suffered from stomach pain and burning mostly, couldn’t sleep well and just hated those extra pounds I couldn’t get rid of no matter what I did. Now I stumbled upon this system that is easy and it doesn’t require expensive medication or difficult exercises.
