4 Ways To Soothe Dry Itchy Skin

February 14, 2008 by Cavyl Stewart

Do you suffer from dry itchy skin? If so, you know what it’s like for your skin to feel too tight. You might also have dry, rough patches on your face, along with flaking, peeling or scaling in some areas.

Dry itchy skin isn’t just uncomfortable. It also makes you more prone to developing those fine lines and wrinkles most of us would like to avoid. Fortunately, there are things you can do to battle dryness and itching.

Moisturise

The best way to fight dryness is to moisturise. Not only will using a good moisturizer hydrate you skin, it will also keep moisture from escaping. You should buy a moisturiser made for those with dry skin, and use it daily. Make sure you apply it soon after you have washed your face, to lock in even more moisture.

Cold weather can also make skin dry and itchy. Before you go out into the cold, apply some extra moisturizer. It will help protect your skin from the harsh elements.

Avoid Water Whenever Possible

You might like going for long swims, but your dry skin won’t. Going for long swims will rob your skin of oils. But, if you do swim, apply a moisturizer as soon as you get out of the pool.

Also, you may have been taught that you should wash your face at least twice a day, in the morning and at night. But, if your skin is extremely dry and itchy, you might want to avoid washing your face more than once a day. That will be more than enough to get your face clean.

Use the Right Soap or Cleanser

Not only could the wrong soap or cleanser dry out your skin, it could also contain ingredients that are making your itching worse. If your skin feels tight and dry after you wash your face, you are using the wrong soap or cleanser.

Make sure you use soaps and cleansers that are mild and gentle, and made especially for dry skin. You should also use products that are hypoallergenic.

Buy a Humidifier

If it’s hot outside, or it’s cold out and you’re using central heating indoors, that could be drying out your skin.

A humidifier will add moisture to the air in your home, and help keep your skin from drying out. So place a humidifier in the room where you spend most of your time during the day, and then move it to the bedroom at night.

Keeping your dry itchy skin hydrated will help prevent fine lines and wrinkles. It will also help to make your skin more soft and youthful.
