Setting Your Weight Loss Goal
September 14, 2009 Filed Under: Weight Loss
Daniel Burham, a famous architect, once said, Make no small plans, they have no magic to stir your blood to action. Make big plans, aim high in work and hope.
Set your goals high!
Set Measurable Goals!
Now figure out how to measure your progress towards your goals. Your goal must be a measurable goal, like: I’m going to lose 20 pounds, or I am going to get into that size 8 dress for the big Christmas party. Or I am going to ride my bike for the entire 20 mile trail. These goals have measurable values, 1 pound at a time, one inch at a time, or one mile at a time.
Set Realistic time lines! There are no unrealistic goals, just unrealistic time lines!Give yourself time, you will only hurt yourself if you set a unreasonable time line. Also have measurements for your goals. What is your goal for the year? For three months? For the week or for the day?
The American College of Sport Medicine, the largest and most respected health, medical and exercise organization, recommends a weight loss goal of one to two pounds a week. Doesn’t sound like a lot I know, but it is the safest way to make sure to burn fat and not lean muscle mass. I set my goals to 0.5 to 1 pound a week, just to make sure!
Set Reasonable Goals! When setting your goals, you must be reasonable. An unreasonable goal for me would be; I want a body like Jennifer Lopez. Since I have an athletic build (broad shoulders, slim hips and about 1 inch between my rib cage and my hip bone), the only way to get her figure is to graft my body tissue on another skeleton. So her curves (for me) are really not possible. Ok, so it seams I must be reasonable.
We must start by writing down our goals. On paper, so we can see every day what is our goal. Also put down how you feel about the goal.
Be faithful to yourself , be positive, never negative, don’t try, do!.
Commit to yourself, commit to your goals.
Your goal will not be easy. Nothing worth wile is, but it will be wonderful when you complete the last step and accomplish your goal!
