Natural Weight Loss Requires More Than Just A Magic Pill

A great variety of natural weight loss products are always being promoted, and there seems like an unending stream of new weight loss aids being hyped. The ads promise easy weight loss and people desperately want to believe that it is possible, so they buy the latest product hoping it will be the easy answer they’ve been seeking. Despite the fact that most people are aware deep down that there really is no quick, easy way to lose weight, they’ll buy each new weight loss miracle that comes out on the market with excitement, only to be discouraged repeatedly.
Many natural weight loss products do have some beneficial effects and do in fact live up to their marketing claims. For instance, the herb hoodia gordonii has been shown to be very effective at suppressing appetite. So, if you happen to have a tendency to get overly hungry and this causes you to overeat or eat the wrong things, then hoodia may be very useful to you. Unfortunately, the majority of people do not eat too much because they are really hungry. They may eat in response to a craving, or they may eat to soothe boredom or anxiety, but few people overeat primarily because of actual hunger. Because of this, despite hoodia’s effectiveness as an appetite suppressant, it really doesn’t provide much weight loss assistance except for those with actual hunger issues.
Other natural weight loss aids may work by increasing the metabolic effects of diet and exercise. Well, if you aren’t doing any kind of consistent diet and exercise program, the benefits of such products will be minimal at best.
Some products supposedly produce natural weight loss by preventing the body from absorbing the fat in the food you eat. Although fat-blocking products can produce some weight loss, any food you eat in excess will be converted to fat in the body, whether or not your fat absorption is blocked in the digestive tract. Again we return to sensible diet and exercise as the only dependable means to effective natural weight loss.
No natural weight loss product is a replacement for diet and exercise. While some products may enhance the effects of diet and exercise, such enhancements are minor in comparison to what proper eating and increased activity can do. Even the advertisements for weight loss products usually are clear on this point – at least they’re clear if you have sharp enough vision to see the disclaimers hidden in the tiny print usually located at the bottom of the ads.
Although diet and exercise are undoubtedly the fundamental requirements for natural weight loss, you may find certain weight loss aids helpful. The main thing is to choose such products on the basis of how well the reported effects of such products suit your needs. For instance, if you’re already eating a diet low in fat, it doesn’t make much sense to purchase a fat-blocking supplement.
Once you have your natural weight loss plan figured out in terms of your eating plan, your exercise routine, and your choice of weight loss products, there’s just one thing that needs to be done. You need to be able to stay on the program consistently over the long-term! The number one problem with most weight loss plans is that people don’t stick to the plan consistently long enough to get lasting results.
In several years of working with people on weight loss, I have observed that the vast majority of people will be able to stick to their natural weight loss plan for more than a few weeks in a row. Now, many people work on losing weight for many months or even years, but because their efforts are not consistent, most are unsuccessful at losing weight and keeping it off.
New research that compared the effectiveness of various popular diet plans came upon an interesting discovery. Most diet plans have about the same success rate statistically. Whether or not a diet works actually has little to do with the rules of the diet itself. The researchers found that that all diets were about equally effective and the success or failure in losing weight was mainly dependent on how well the participants followed whatever program they were on. The message here is pretty clear – it doesn’t matter what diet you follow (assuming it’s halfway healthy of course!) as much as it matters how well you follow it!
To follow-through with your natural weight loss plan, you MUST get control of your mind. There are many ways to do this and many different techniques that work to varying degrees for different people. My E-Book, “Training Your Brain For weight loss” discusses several of these techniques in detail in a user-friendly manner specifically designed for weight loss, but you can also get a lot of help in this area with products from Anthony Robbins, Dr. Phil, and others, as well as through technologies like hypnosis, the Sedona Method and Emotional Freedom Technique. You may need to try several methods to find what works well for you (at the risk of making another shameless plug, my E-book provides the opportunity to do this quickly, easily, and less expensively than buying several different products).
Ultimately, the key to succeeding with a natural weight loss plan is to take a combination approach that includes diet, exercise, any weight loss products that meet your specific needs, and make your program a part of your daily lifestyle. The way to be make your program something you consistently stick with long-term is to take control of your mind and emotions so that your brain works with rather than against your weight loss efforts.
