Laser Assisted Liposuction

July 17, 2009 Filed Under: Liposuction

Laser liposuction is a quick and modern way of surgical fat removal. The high energy of the laser is melting the fat cells. Compared to the traditional method where a needle is sucking out the fat cells, the use of the laser has some advantages.

The surgeon uses a cannula to remove the fat under your skin. It is inserted under local anesthesia and as soon as the heat of the laser has melted the fat cells they get removed through the cannula.

A short laser liposuction can be finished within a half hour. However, if you want to remove a larger amount of fat or if you want a laser liposuction on larger areas or different areas, then it can take up to two hours until finished.

A little less than $1,000 is the cost of laser liposuction but only for small areas. Spreading over a large area such a surgery can quickly cost up to $10,000.

The advantage with laser lipo is that it can be used for many different areas of your body. There are popular areas like the thighs and the stomach area but there are also more sensible areas which are great for the laser like the neck, arms or even the face.

The use of the needle in the traditional liposuction causes more damage to the surrounding cells than the laser. The needle sucks the cells out of the body while the laser is melting the cells.

Lipoplasty, liposculpture, suction lipectomy are different names for the surgical fat removal technique but the laser lipo is increasingly popular. Every year more of these surgeries are performed.

With more than 100,000 liposuction surgery performed each and every year, liposuction and especially laser liposuction has become a very safe and successful way of fat removal. Many people confuse it with a weight loss strategy but liposuction is not an effective weight loss method long term.

If you want to remove less than ten pounds than you have the greatest chances of success. Keep in mind that the risk increases with the amount of fat you want to get rid with laser liposuction. The problem here is skin elasticity, blood loss and issue damage. Removing huge amounts of fat can even be fatal.

Talk with your surgeon and clearly limit the amount of fat you want to have removed. The smaller the amount the better the results and the smaller the risks.

Hi,thanks for sharing info. now i know what liposuction is. Liposuction also provides a short cut way to remove excess fat from the body. One session of liposuction can remove as much as 6-7 liters of fat from a person’s body. In some places, liposuction is not only done for cosmetic reasons but as a pre-surgery requirement, such as prior to stomach stapling or gastric banding, etc. However, most of the time it is for cosmetic purposes and as quick way to remove excess fat with the least inconvenience.
