1. Drink water regularly. At least 6 large glasses of water a day would help to flush the body’s system thoroughly. Large amounts of water aids quick digestion and enables easier bowel movement. Keep in mind that alcohol and beverages such as coffee and cola drinks, can be dehydrating.
2. Adding roasted black gram lentil (including husks) to chapati made of wheat too can provide constipation relief.
3. Molasses or treacle, which has high calorie content is also very good as a natural laxative. Although it has a strong taste and you may find you want to add fruit juice or milk to it when taking it. All you really need is two tablespoonfuls of black strap molasses just before sleeping at night.
4. Cook a cabbage and save the water. Drink half a cup of cabbage water twice a day. This is very effective in treating and curing constipation.
5. If you have access to mango, take one in the morning before eating breakfast, and one in the evening after dinner. Mangoes are very effective to get your bowels moving. Prunes and figs either eaten in the dry form or as fluids will also bring constipation relief.
6. Create a mixture of Spiegel seeds and warm milk. This is done by dipping the Spiegel seeds (5-10g) in warm milk (200g). To this mixture add a little sugar and you have yourself an effective constipation treatment.
7. If you are suffering from chronic constipation, take figs dipped in water in the morning eating and drinking the fig and water. If taken in larger amounts, you’ll definitely find yourself reaching for the next available toilet.
8. Another remedy for getting instant relief from constipation, is drinking water that has been kept in a copper container that’s been left overnight. It acts as a superb constipation relief.
9. Pour half a glass of water and mix one-quarter () of a spoonful of Epsom salts with it and drink it down, for fast constipation relief.
10. Also try pouring a whole sachet of Andrew’s Liver Salts in a glass of water and drinking immediately. This will also produce fast constipation relief.
11. Try wheat bran, brown rice, or whole grain bread. A diet low in fibre can play a noticeable roll in constipation. Insoluble fibre, which passes through the body almost unchanged, gives stools bulk and a soft texture, making them easier to pass. Foods that are high in insoluble fibre include whole grains, fruits, and vegetables.
12. Do regular physical activity and exercising. Take walks, trips on your bike or to the gym - just keep your body moving regularly, as not getting enough physical activity can lead to constipation.
13. Take a teaspoon of linseeds with water before each meal. The linseed is a lubricant and a very good natural constipation remedy.
14. Fresh pressed sour lime juice in a glass of warm water - drinking it twice a day is also an effective constipation home remedy.
15. Fennel contains properties that help the digestive system. Take a few fennel seeds with a glass of warm water each night before bed. If you use fennel regularly, it will help bring your digestive system into balance - an excellent natural home remedy for constipation.

I’ve been adding flaxseed to my oatmeal, yogurt and pancakes for the extra fiber. And drinking fruit juices like Green Monster by Naked Juice also seems to help.

Great easy to swallow constipation remedies (of course drink plenty of plain water AND exercise!):
1 cup of brown rice with apple cider vinegar (Bragg’s preferred) and maybe a hint of organic olive oil. Before bed, and replace meals with 1 cup of brown rice if you’re really stopped up.
also- a lot of raw almonds will do the trick.
also also- one whole package of blueberries
3 or 4 whole boiled beets
adding plenty of brown rice, blueberries, beets, almonds, and other fiber-full foods, and limiting cheeses and meats all go a long way towards happy bowels.
I’ve tried prunes and Epsom salt, those really work. I’m sure the rest are good, too. Thanks for the list, Lucy. Another remedy I’ve tried is sea salt mixed with warm water taken first thing in the morning.

Thanks for the additions to the constipation relief list. Prunes, flaxseed, beets, almonds and brown rice are easily available almost anywhere. Epsom salt is a little harder to track down in this part of the world.
