September 21, 2009 Filed Under: Dieting

If your desire is to be a symbol of health as a woman, then you must have 5 essential things in your refrigerator. Vitamins, minerals, fiber, protein, calcium, and antioxidants are all important parts of being a healthy woman and are all things contained in the following five foods that every woman must have.

1. Milk We’ve been drinking milk since we came out of our mother’s womb, but you honestly can never get enough of it. The National Osteoporosis Foundation has reported that something like 8 million women have osteoporosis and lots more will be affected by it through bone fractures related to the disease. However, drinking the recommended daily amount of Vitamin D and calcium will help to prevent this bone breaking disease.

Milk, especially the Vitamin D fortified milk you buy in the stores today is a vital source of calcium, Vitamin D, riboflavin, and protein. Dairy products are also good sources of Vitamin A, iodine, magnesium, molybdenum, zinc, and selium. They are all necessary for the proper functioning, healing, and regeneration of your body.

Drinking one 8 oz glass of skim milk will provide you with 8 grams of protein and 28 percent of the daily amount of calcium that you need.

2. Yogurt with Live and Active Cultures Yogurt with live and active cultures (not all yogurts have this read the label) aids in digestion, helps prevent constipation and diarrhea, and may help prevent recurring yeast infections.

Yogurt is also rich in calcium and protein. Just one 8 oz. cup of plain, skim milk, yogurt provides 14 grams of protein and 49 percent of the recommended daily allowance for calcium. It’s also a good source of potassium, Vitamin A, iodine, magnesium, molybdenum, zinc, and selium.

3. Broccoli All dark green vegetables are great for women’s health. Broccoli in particular is high in vitamins C and A and is also a significant source of riboflavin, niacin, folate, pantothenic acid, vitamins E and K, calcium, chromium, and magnesium and is also high in antioxidants.

A single cup of chopped up broccoli provides 135 percent of the needed amounts of Vitamins C. It’s low in calories and is absolutely great for you.

4. Eggs Eggs are a great source of nutrition, protein, and energy and every woman can use more of that!

One large egg is s great source of thiamin, vitamin B12, biotin, pantothenic acid, vitamins D and K, and copper. They are great fried, scrambled, boiled, or even raw.

5. Good Old Fashioned Oatmeal Oatmeal has been around a long time and for good reason: it is so very healthy and good for you and is a great source of protein and fiber. Oatmeal is great for cancer prevention, good for digestion, great for keeping off extra weight, and lowering cholesterol levels. If you add raisins and nut and berries, you will find that your oatmeal is even tastier than you remember and that will give you a little variety.
