High Cholesterol And It’s Risks

Cholesterol is a waxy type, fat-like substance made in the liver and found uncertain foods, such as food from animals, like dairy products (whole milk),eggs and meat. Cholesterol is carried by two types of proteins. Cholesterol is regularly produced by your liver and helps transport fat to areas of your body that require it for energy and repairs.

Heart

Too much cholesterol in the body can lead to serious problems like heart disease. When atherosclerosis affects the coronary arteries (the blood vessels that supply the muscles of the heart), the condition is called coronary artery disease, which puts a person at risk for having a heart attack.

You can’t change your genes but there are things you can do now to decrease your risk for heart disease later. Although not all the factors contributing to heart disease and high cholesterol can be controlled, many can.

Stay away from foods that are high in cholesterol, saturated fat, and trans fat, all of which raise bad cholesterol levels and your risk of developing heart disease. Reducing your cholesterol level lessens your chance for having a plaque explode and cause a heart attack.

For these individuals the fight against cholesterol is never-ending because they are are at greater risk for heart disease. In fact, lifestyle modifications may have a stronger impact on lowering the risk of stroke and heart disease than does medication by itself.

High cholesterol is only one of a number of risk factors for heart attack and stroke. Although high cholesterol is a serious risk factor for heart disease, it can be modified.

  3. This is one of the biggest myths with regards to cholesterol:
“Stay away from foods that are high in cholesterol”

Food that CONTAIN cholesterol like eggs and liver have NOT been shown to raise blood cholesterol levels.

Studies have shown that even during the RARE times when increased egg consumption resulted in a SLIGHT increase in cholesterol, they found that the cholesterol was a much healthier type of cholesterol. It was the healthier cholesterol molecules, vs. the smaller, dense ones which are so harmful.

So people are staying away from eggs and it’s not making a difference and they wonder why. THAT’S why.
