Dumbbell Workout Basics

November 3, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Using dumbbells is crucial to a long term fitness and personal body strengthening plan. As individual weights dumbbells are best used combined with a complete fitness workout on a daily basis.

A standard yet effective dumbbell workout is by and large conducted in the following way:

With a dumbbell of equal weight in each hand, raise each arm to shoulder level from the side of your body. Once done, slowly lower your arms so they are hanging at your sides again. Repeat this exercise as many times as you feel necessary. To focus on strengthening both arms, just use one dumbbell and one arm at one time, incorporating it into this short but effective dumbbell exercise.

Purchasing dumbbell weights is easy as most fitness shops have them. They can be purchased in pairs or as a complete dumbbell set that provides a lot of different weight increments, which will depend on current fitness levels as well as future fitness ambition.

Adjustable dumbbells can be bought too, these are particularly convenient in the home-gym for a quick dumbell arm exercising session each day. If your fitness regime includes the use of treadmills, spinning, bench presses and skipping ropes, then your best bet is to use the gym clubs facilities.

Generally dumbbells weights of 5 pound increments can be purchased off the shelf, which is fairly perfect for those working on a long-term fitness training program and gives the added advantage of being able to match their strength levels as they progress and improve.

If you’re a fanatic about colour combinations in your home-gym, all is not lost as dumbbells come in a variety of colours, designs and textures as well as being manufactured in several materials so you can buy dumbbells to suit your own private style and match the decor of your home-gym. Choose chrome or cast iron dumbbells that are both simple and easy to use without losing the trendy look. Rubber encasing dumbbells are also available if you want to minimize noise or the occasional floor damage from an unintentional drop on the floor during a dumbell workout – it happens.

Without doubt the chrome dumbbells have been the most popular type for home use through the years, but as said there is a huge variety on the market today to choose from in all price ranges.Get a free Bowflex SelectTech Dumbbell Set!

Dumbbell racks are also available for storing your dumbbell set, keeping your home-gym space nice and tidy. Without a rack, dumbbells do tend to clutter the room and taking up excess floor space. Dumbbell racks help you out with this as they can organise the dumbbells vertically or horizontally and out of the way of walk through areas, which also helps avoid accidents where people (yourself included) could trip over them.

Naturally, the dumbbell rack and dumbbells should fit together, so the type of rack you select, will ultimately depend on the type of dumbbell set you purchase. Similarly the type of dumbbell set your purchase depends on your height, weight, body type, and fitness level and your level of strength.

Figuring Out A Fitness Routine That Works

September 22, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Have you ever started working out only to quit a few months later? I know I have. After many stops and starts, I think that staying motivated comes down to finding a workout plan that you actually enjoy and that fits your personality.

The first thing you need to do is figure out what you enjoy doing. Personally, I love yoga. I find it to be very relaxing and it builds muscle while I am at it. I also really enjoy walking with friends. For me, if I can do a fitness activity with a friend then I am much more likely to do it, because then it is more like socializing and less about fitness.

Another example of someone fitting in fitness in a way she enjoys is my sister. She has a very active toddler so she uses an adjustable dumbbell set and works out in the evenings after she goes to bed. She also spends a lot of time walking and playing with her son.

So what works for you? Do you like to hike or bike? Do you prefer to work out with weights? Do you like to swim? The key to fitness is finding something you like to do and doing it often. Any physical movement is better than no physical movement.

One of the things that I do recommend is that when you are setting up your routine to include some resistance training with weights. Resistance training is one of the fastest and easiest ways to get fit and feel great. It also has tons of other health benefits. You don’t have to go to the gym, just get a set of adjustable dumbbells and check out You Tube for exercises.

Be sure to take good care of your body. It is the only one you’ve got. Click here to go to the Adjustable Dumbbells Site. Click here for more information on adjustable weight dumbbell sets.

Eddie has some good ideas on how you can perform workouts that involve all the big, major muscle groups AND the cardiorespiratory system with dumbbells and says that he’s not surprised people are confused.

Walk into any gym today and you’ll be overwhelmed by the shiny machines and fancy equipment. It is easy to start believing you need all this equipment to meet your fitness, fat loss and physique building goals. But in my opinion, a full body dumbbell workout can do everything those expensive machines do, better!

Just so we’re on the same page, let me start by saying you don’t need a gym full of fancy equipment to get fit, burn fat and build the type of body that turns heads. You don’t even need to join a gym at all. A full body dumbbell workout, dedication and consistency are all you need.

First of all, did you know you can get an excellent full body workout using only dumbbells?
