Assisted Living Facilities: Finding The Best

May 5, 2008 Filed Under: Health News

Nursing homes or assisted living facilities are primarily designed to meet the needs of individuals convalescing from illness or to provide long-term nursing supervision for persons with chronic medical conditions. Treatments for conditions such as pulmonary and respiratory diseases, dialysis and cancer are provided in this type of environment.

In general nursing homes are stand-alone facilities, but some are operated within a hospital or retirement community and may also offer special care units which provide services that can include Alzheimer’s Disease, dementia, head injuries or other medical conditions. Although a great number of other services are provided as well – such as – physical, occupational and speech therapy among others.

Other services offered to residents can include housekeeping, cooking, help with shopping and other household activities, companionship, and trips with the client to appointments and other activities.

Some nursing homes are part of a continuing care retirement community and are governed through special contracts. Most care in nursing facilities is provided by certified nursing assistants, not by skilled personnel.

To help find the best nursing home, refer to the assisted living facility directory, where you’ll find a great deal of information – for example on where to find Senior care and nursing homes, professional in-depth information about terminal illnesses as well as a financial guide on who pays for what, in short everything you need to know about assisted living facilities.

Nursing homes are excellent options for those who need skilled care. Alternatively, Assisted Living focuses on quality of life and supports and individuals independence. Most seniors will never need skilled care and benefit from the lifestyle that Assisted Living offers. Very informative article on nursing homes.
