Acid reflux treatment: Reliable Solutions

March 15, 2009 Filed Under: Acid Reflux

If you have acid reflux or it’s symptoms, you know that it’s uncomfortable and painful and should never be treated lightly. Acid reflux frequently happens when the lower oesophageal sphincter (LOS), a gate between the stomach and the oesophagus, relaxes more often than it should and/or at inappropriate times. This allows stomach contents to flow back up into the oesophagus causing in most case a great deal of discomfort.

GERD, heartburn and acid reflux create a constant strain on the body which can lead to all kinds of bad things. Often acid reflux kicks in after a heavy meal and is generally caused by acidic stomach juices, or food and fluids, that are pushed back up into the esophagus. Too much reflux can cause the stomach acid to burn the esophagus and can lead to serious problems, as it can be caused by any number of things, but is usually brought on by stress and poor diet.

Stress of any kind can cause your body to react in strange ways, and one of those reactions is an increase in the production of digestive acids.

Acid reflux treatment involves different methods, but part of an acid reflux diet and healthy lifestyle includes quitting smoking. First, start the treatment by changing your diet. Treatment will depend on the severity of the condition but usually antacids and acid blockers are prescribed. For some people, treatment can include lifestyle changes, such as changing what they eat or drink.

Natural remedies for acid reflux and heartburn are a much better alternative than relying on prescription drugs. Natural remedies include changing the foods you commonly eat and at what time of day you eat, how much you eat, and in what circumstances you eat. You may think that an acid reflux diet has to be bland, but while some spices trigger symptoms, some commonly used cooking herbs are considered natural remedies for acid reflux and do help some people.

Natural remedies include herbs such as chamomile, meadowsweet, slippery elm, cancer bush, fennel, catnip, angelica root, ginger root and other botanicals, including aloe. Natural remedies for Acid Reflux are in the form of avoiding foods that promote reflux, which include chocolate, peppermint, alcohol, caffeinated drinks and spicy or acidic foods like tomato juice, carbonated beverages, citrus juices etc.

Chamomile or fennel tea. The soothing effects of chamomile or fennel tea are also known to provide acid reflux relief. Chamomile Chamomile is a favorite herbal remedy for heartburn because it is soothing and relaxing for the entire body. Because of the high calcium content in chamomile, it is able to effective decrease stomach acid and reduces heartburn symptoms.
